The Farm in the '40sHistory

Before Hy-Hope Farm was purchased in 1974, by our family, it was owned by two brothers. We only know them as the Spencer brothers but the farm had been in their family for generations. It was actually a century farm, which means that the same family had possession of it for more than 100 years. In 1980, on the Grey Cup weekend, Carol baked and sold her first pies on a small table at the end of the driveway. Over the last 25 years Hy-Hope Farm has gone from a folding table at the side of the road to a market, which carries seasonal fruits and vegetables, home made jams and preserves as well as an 18 hole executive golf course.

Golf Course

Margaret BibbConstruction on the golf course began roughly 16 years ago, when Dave saw a program on television where a sheep farmer in western Canada turned his pasture into a golf course. The area where the golf course is now had been mostly used for crops but was very hilly and difficult to farm. On a whim, Dave decided to turn under the crop, and Pasture Putt was born. It started out as a six-hole course with bumpy greens and gopher holes as obstacles, now Hy-Hope Golf is an 18 hole executive course with 3200 yards of playing area and a challenging layout. From the beginning we have been a place for parents to bring their children to learn how to play the game in a relaxed atmosphere. We still value the idea of a place where people may come to have an enjoyable experience and learn how to play golf with little stress and pressure.
